Collaborations & Productions

Saumya is involved in collaborating with the local art forms & Indian art forms and artists. She deeply believes in the process of bringing communities together through the medium of performing arts. The love for sharing and collaborating began in 2010 at the Indo-European Dance Festival, Delhi, organised by her Guru Nrityashri Alaknanda. She witnessed a mesmerizing choreography of Kathak and Baroque (Polish Classical Dance), performed by Alaknanda Ji and Ms. Romana Agnel. The ‘Doll Dance’, as the piece was called depicted the life of two dolls –one belonging to a Polish girl and the other to an Indian. Everything in the choreography was a mirror image of the other, except of the movements and costumes.

That was the first time Saumya realised all humans go through the same emotions, stories and memories, no matter where they live, or travel to. From then on, she became part of many such travels, witnessing, creating and dancing with locals of her own country and those in countries like Poland, Hungary, Kenya, Spain, Bulgaria & Bosnia & Herzegovina. During her tenure as Kathak Teacher & Performer in Hungary, Saumya, in association with the Embassy of India & Indian Council for Cultural Relations she created many such occasions to bring communities together.

One of them was the International Dance Day – Budapest – The sole idea was to take India’s identity of ‘Unity in Diversity’, beyond borders. Rare choreographies of unconventional performances of Indian Classical Dances, in unison with the European Classical and Folk Dances, presented individually, as well as, weaved together, to showcase the beautiful bonds they create. This was achieved by collaborating with European artists, who performed Indian Classical Dances, or European Classical / folk dances.
